You've made it! Where? To a great place that will hopefully give you some answers to your questions and direct you to some helpful and encouraging resources. Vilonia Student Ministries desires to be a conduit of grace to our parents. The majority of our leaders are parents as well with a few that are currently parenting teens and beyond. With that said, we try to understand your hopes and concerns and filter it all through the word of God.
So, how can we help you? How can we serve you as a parent? Well, a variety of ways come to mind (you may click on any link that is highlighted below).Parental Advisory: This is our Facebook page just for parents! Here, I post up-to-date announcements, calendar information, links to various articles that are relevant to you, Scripture, and quotes and comments that I believe will be a blessing to you. Join this page.Safety: We desire to have an environment that parents can feel comfortable about. The first thing a student does when they walk into our youth area is check in on our computer system. This is set up for a couple of reasons: 1) Accountability - There is a record of whether or not your child entered our youth space. You don't have to wonder if they actually came to class or went somewhere else. 2) A name tag is printed out with the student's name which helps everyone in the room get to know them a little easier.Calendar: I want you to stay informed. That will benefit all of us! You will know exactly why Johnny is asking you for $30, Johnny will get to enjoy activities more often, and I will have a greater chance at having Johnny's participation. Much of this will be communicated via social media.Teaching: We trust that you are not sending your child to us as if we were some trumped up babysitter's club. Yes, we love to have Christ-honoring fun, and, yes, we really love to teach Biblically-sound lessons. I've set up a page for you to at least get a feel for how I teach the word of God. I believe this is extremely important for you to know. We seriously don't shy away from parental participation. We encourage you to sit in on one of our Fusion services just so you can know what they are taking in. Why not?Bare Essentials: Every two years we set aside part of January and the month of February to teach our 7th & 8th grade students about physical, spiritual, and emotional purity. Our desire is not only to equip the students to walk in a sexually pure manner but to equip their parents to know how to encourage and walk alongside their children. With that said, the Sunday prior to the students beginning their study, one of our couples will take the parents of our 7th & 8th graders through a like-study designed especially for them. This is a great opportunity to be encouraged by the study itself and to spend time with other parents in the same season of life. The study will be followed by an opportunity of commitment by the teens, and, for those who choose to do so, is followed by a special Parent/Teen Breakfast at the home of one of our members (where you would present a special gift in recognition of this commitment) and moment of recognition during our morning worship service.Song of Solomon: In addition to Bare Essentials, every 2 years we take our 9th & 10th grade students through a study in the Song of Solomon to continue the conversation that began in Bare Essentials. The Bare Facts: Along with Bare Essentials and Song of Solomon our 11th & 12th grade students have a more mature discussion facilitated by Josh McDowell. This really serves as one final conversation before these teens hit the college campus, military life, or a career beyond the reach of your home. We desire to partner with you in developing a strong Biblical worldview that shapes a teen's decision-making.Youth Events: Parents want to have fun, right?! I know some of you think that your teenager would lose his or her mind if you showed up. Maybe they will. We're always happy to have an extra chaperone and it's really a great time. If we go on a mission trip, and you're a member...you're invited! If we go on a Lasertag Lock-in...you're invited! If we head off to a great conference...well guess what? You're invited! Our Leadership: We desire to have the cream of the crop with our leaders, and at the same time we desire to bring in those who are growing to be leaders. Our leadership team consists of a wide variety of people. We have public school teachers, a school nurse, full-time mothers, a dentist, former youth pastors/leaders/missionary, Bible college students, and the list goes on. Each of these wear one, two, or three hats in our ministry. Some are small group leaders, Sunday School teachers, chaperones, event planners, and behind-the-scenes "technicians"...that sounds good! - Click here to see our Staff Expectations
